It is my obligation, my honor, and my sincere personal pleasure to inform you all that there has been a minor change made to our itinerary for the excursion this weekend, which was originally going to be only to the ancient and symbolically important city of Santiago de Compostela (please google if you're not familiar - this city is one of the most unique and beautiful places in Spain). We will still be going to Santiago, but we've recently become aware that on day 2, we'll be able to offer the students the opportunity to visit **drum roll please......**
PORTUGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will be the first time in the history of the IUHPFL (as far as we know) that a group will be taking an excursion across a national border, and frankly, it's no surprise to us that our León group is making history. We'll be visiting the scenic Portuguese border town Valença do Minho (also worth googling), touring an ancient fortress, visiting a local marketplace, and sampling some traditional Portuguese foods. This will be a truly unforgettable experience as much for the students as for the instructors. Photos and stories to come following the weekend.
Tonight is the climax of León's week-long fiestas de San Juan, so many students will be making their way to the Plaza Mayor with their host families to enjoy the live music and fireworks.
Thank you, as ever, for sharing these students with us. We're as appreciative as we are in awe of their unique interests and talents, and we're especially thrilled to be able to make our León 2015 pilgrimage an international journey.
