¡A comer!

For two days now we've been having lunch ("la comida") at Casa Blanca, a restaurant - about a 10 minute walk away from the academy where we have class. IUHPFL in León has been having lunches at Casa Blanca during the week every day for the past few years, and by now they know to expect us for the summer. They prepare a great daily menu for us that consists of four options for a first course and four options for a more substantial second course. These options will usually contain some less intimidating dishes (salads, mild soups, meatballs) and some more adventurous dishes, which some students have been going out of their way to try!

The other exciting update is that today students followed their regular class schedule for the first time, and they quickly realized that it's going to be an intense summer. Nevertheless, the group left today with a huge smile, and it seems the call of summer homework was not to deter them from the promise of churros, chocolate, and ice cream...

This Friday we depart first thing in the morning for our first excursion to Astorga & Ponferrada (both beautiful places to check out in a Google image search) where, among other things, we'll be seeing amazing ancient castles. Photos and stories to come - check back in soon!

  2. Thanks so much for the note, Bridget! It's absolutely my pleasure - the only challenge for me is picking and choosing among the highlights, because every moment so far with these students has been incredible.
